Background on FEI and its Industrial Chambers:
· The Federation of Egyptian Industries was established 1922.
· The Main objectives of the FEI:
1) Protect the common interests of the members of the various Egyptian Industries.
2) Ensure the industrial policy of the country is a combined effort of both the government and the Egyptian Industrial producers.
3) Represent businessmen before the governmental and legislative bodies.
4) Cooperate in solving the obstacles facing the members of Industrial enterprises .

- International decrees & agreements

5) Conduct specific efforts to promote the Egyptian Industries in collaboration with others through :
A) Industrial modernization center ,

- Technical research centers.
- Sectorial studies.
- Marketing agencies.
- Quality assurance
- Exportability
- Finance for modernization aspects
- Human resource developing
- Training courses .
B) Environmental compliance office
- Building capacities to facilitate cleaner production
- Provides consultancy services
- Encourage industries to compliance with environmental legislation.
- Promote environmental investments.
- Improve the occupational health and safety situation in enterprises.
- Create investment and export opportunities
· The FEI deals with all industrial enterprises in the public or private sector that have a minimum of 25 employees and/or capital more than 5000 L.E.
· Currently the number of members is approximately 35,000 divided to 16 chambers.
· The board of directors of each chamber is (15 persons), (10) elected among the members, and (5) recruited by minister of industry.

b- Description of the organization
- The chamber is directed by a board consisting of 15 members (10 elected + 5 selected) assisted by the chamber’s executive staff.
- It is non- profit and non- governmental organization. It is financing by member Fees.
-The activities of the chamber cover all the metallurgical sector all over the country.
- The chamber of Metallurgical Industries includes 3 sections
1. General
A ) Ferrous .
b ) metal forming
c ) Non Ferrous
2. Jewellery & precious Metals.
3. Foundries.
- The No. Of the chamber`s members are about 500 member , the majority of them can be Categorized as small and medium enterprises especially the foundries (Ferrous and non Ferrous) , also the small enterprises working in the Gold , silver, precious metals and jewellary, Besdie the companies works in steel industries ( making & forming ),and Non- ferrous (Aluminum Copper, Zin, Lead products )

The main fields of metallurgical industries are:
1) Steel Industries:
- Long products ( bars & sections) ,
- Hot rolled sheets & coils ,
- Cold rolled & galv, coated sheets & coils ,
- Special and alloy steel grads long products ,
- large number of steel re-rolling shops for very small sections .
· Egypt is self sufficient in steel products ,And exports significant quantity of steel flat and long products
Production Facilities
· An integrated plant (Local ore to rolled long & flat products by Blast furnaces techniques).
· An integrated plant ( Imported ore to long & flat products by DRI and EAF ).
· Semi- integrated plants ( scrap , EAF , to rolled long products).
· There are Rolling mills for long products ( from billets ) ,
· Hot rolled coils ( scrap, Thin slab , hot rolling )
· plants for cold rolled , galv. , coated sheets & coils (from hot rolled stock) .
· Special steel grades ( from scrap , EAF )
· plants for small section rolling from miss rolled products.
2) Non-ferrous Industries:
Aluminum smelter
· There are one smelter of capacity 320 th. tons of semi finished products .
Sales and exports
The annual production of 320,000 tons is divided between the local market 45 % and exports 55 %.

Aluminum billets (6-10" diameter) 70,000 ton
Aluminum wires (9.5 to 25 mm in coils 51,000 ton
Foundry alloys wide range 13,000 ton

Zinc products
· There are several producers of zinc products (from scrap and imported pure blocks).

· There are several Legal producers of Lead products(from scrapped Car battaries).
Copper products
· There are several producers of copper products in the form of Bars & rods , sheets , disks, blocks , machine parts , drawn wires and cables
(from imported electrolitic copper and from local scrap).
3) Castings & Foundries :
Using Cast Iron blocks, Steel , Aluminum, Copper,scrap to produce

3) Gold & jewells .
- The local market size is estimated to be 150 tons/ annum , 70 % is through recycled old items.
- The number of works registered in gold stamping authorities reached 600 ,including very small shops, and some hand made personels. 130 of them are members in the chamber.
- Most of jewels plants located in Cairo , and some of them distributed in EGYPT ,
- Jewels sales in Egypt are 80 % gold items of ( 21 k)
The jewellary section in chamber includes the plants and shops working in precious metals and stones ,
